NICU - First Physiotherapy Session

On the discharge day, a pediatric physiotherapist visited us in NICU to initiate the physiotherapy process.

She checked D.'s head for possible torticollis which is very often observed in preemies. She checked her neck muscles. Then she checked her hips and finally her feet.

she always turned her head to the right during her sleep

In NICU, we did observe that D. had a preferred side. She, very often, turned her head to the right during her sleep. Our physiotherapist said, "It does not have an impact on the head shape yet and as her neck muscles get stronger, preference should disappear." She also added "You need to watch out and make sure she turns her head to the other side as well." She gave us a few exercises to work on the nonpreferred side.

Everything looked normal in this very first session. However, since she was very small, development in the upcoming months was critical she added.

Our next appointment was set for 3 months post discharge. (When D. is corrected 2 months old)
