Do you really a need a sterilizer?

Oh yes!!!This was a life saver product of my entire NICU days and after.

D. was born during pandemic and it was just me and my husband taking care of every single thing. Washing the pump machine accessories and bottles was one of them. It took forever to clean them, especially in the first few days when were super freak about hygiene.

Then we bought a sterilizer. If you pump your breastmilk or if you give breastmilk/formula in a bottle, you would need this product. Especially, during the times when their immune system is not yet fully developed, and their bodily systems are fragile, you want to make sure accessories of the pump or bottles are decently sterilized.

When I was doing my research, mostly came across options with no dryers. I was doubtful whether to go with the one with a dryer or not. Thinking about it now, I don’t know even know why I doubted it for a second. Having dryer option is super convenient, and convenience is new mom’s best friend.

I bought it from the store and only option with a dryer was Dr. Brown’s sterilizer. Looking at the reviews, it looked decent as well. I can easily say it is one of the best purchases we’ve made so far related to parenthood.

The only downside in comparison to a regular sterilizer with only steaming option is that drying takes a bit long time. Steaming takes 10-15 mins only, whereas drying takes 45

minutes. To save time and energy, I usually waited for all

the bottles to be used and then I did run it.

Sterilizer is not very heavy and you can carry it during traveling. We traveled several times in D.'s first year and our sterilizer always had its place in our luggage:)

As D. got older, we started to be more chill about sterilizing and we would only use steaming option to save time and energy.

HEADS UP:

  • If you do not put exact amount of water, it will not complete its cycle. You need to make sure to put the exact amount of water instructed.

  • Instruction is to use distilled water to avoid calcification. Calcification still formed even though I used distilled water. However, putting some vinegar inside the heating element and turning on steaming only helps get rid of the calcification completely.

  • Mine stopped drying around the 1-year mark. Realized HEPA filter needed replacement. Started working again after replacement. (Product comes with one extra HEPA filter)

I am not sure about the other options out there, but I can safely say Dr. Brown sterilizer is worth every penny. Would buy it again if I needed to!
