This class went much better for the both of us. Dora was much more comfortable, I could see she was familiarizing herself with the class host and the babies in general. She still did not participate in the activities that are done in a circle, but I have faith those days are soon:)

This time around, it was not as crowded so I was able get an understanding of how the class is structured. First everybody gets together and makes a circle. Think of it as a greeting/ice breaker activity. We sing together to a theme song which changes every week. Just to give you an idea, this week’s theme was the body parts. Babies are encouraged to introduce a body part of theirs with your role modeling.

When a particular activity is over, babies are encouraged to put the toys away in the toy bin. You would be amazed how these little babies perform such an activity. Even my little one got a hold of it in the second session of course with me doing it first.

Explore at the Little Gym part comes next, and babies hang out in the gym area freely, which is my little D.'s favorite part of the class:) Then the move of the session is demonstrated by the class host and if you want your baby to do it, you get in the line and class host helps your baby perform the exercise. Today, I wanted Dora to experience it as well as she seemed eager. We went up to the bar, she was not happy/comfortable, so we skipped it this time. Will give it a shot next time again.

Suggestions:

  • Role modeling is the keyword in this class to make an example to your baby.

  • Do not get discouraged in the first few sessions if your baby is not very involved in the activities. Babies learn through observing, digesting and seeing you as an example. Talk to other parents who have been there for a long time as most of them went through similar experience.

  • Even if he doesn’t do exactly as instructed, just let him be and do what he wants to do. If he wants spend more time in the gym area, give him that opportunity. This means he is familiarizing himself with the class/people in general.

  • Take a look at the link below if you want to know more about how socializing with other babies work in the first 2 year of life. You will feel better I promise:)
