Post NICU - First few days home

We were sent home with a list of instructions. However, it is always easier said than done:)

On our discharge day, our nurse told us that it will be a change of environment for her and it is bigger of a change for a baby than it is for an adult. She added "this change might reflect on her feedings, stool and sleep"

Well, it definitely did.

It was the three of us finally together and alone. D, E, M. Initials of our names. We were a team DEM now! The minute we came home, we gave her a tour of the house so she could get herself familiar with her home. Obviously this was just a start, not really a quick fix of things.

On our very first night, she refused to be fed. We got worried and called NICU right away:) To be honest, it was not very an encouraging start:) The nurse on call assured us that it is normal and she will want to be fed when she is hungry. Turns out she was right:)

A few days later, she did not pass stool for 48 hours. We got worried and called NICU right away:) The nurse on call assured us that it is perfectly normal and it could take up to 5 days:)

First few weeks passed with worrying over perfectly normal stuff:) Then all of a sudden, we were going with the flow and stopped calling NICU every other night:)

enjoying sunny NO NICU days :)

First few weeks also kept us very busy that I did not even think about the monitors that I was so worried about once. (I was concerned that we were not going to be able to track her breathing, pulse and oxygen levels)

We were finally back to normal away from our NICU days: monitors, nurses, doctors, tests. Do not get me wrong. I adored our doctors and nurses but the truth is I was not going to miss any part of it:)
