"None of your business" is my immediate response to that (not out loud though:)). The other day in the park, one of the nannies asked if I stopped nursing already. I responded "Yes, I did" and she went on "Whyyyyy? She is still so little."

You know moms/nannies talk in the park, share experiences and it can actually be super helpful sometimes. When you get a question/comment about nursing, it is only fair to be honest and give her the whole story in a few sentences. So I did tell her about the NICU stay and how it was stressful, amount of milk calculated, pumping etc.

I tell my story because I want people to understand there is a story behind every mom’s journey. I want to raise awareness on the subject, so they avoid making personal comments to other moms such as oh you never nursed, oh you gave formula, breastmilk is the best etc.

Regardless of how much I talk about my NICU journey, most of the time I sense that the person I am conversing with does not have a clue on what NICU is. They will never have a clue unless they go through the process themselves. Overtime, I figured it is not possible for an individual to put herself in my shoes.

This understanding gave me the power of ignoring any comments about nursing, milestones, feeding, weight, height etc.

Then there came a point where I was super confident about my parenting and extremely happy about the connection I made with my daughter. This was the point where each comment, positive or negative, became irrelevant to me.

However, reaching this point hasn’t been easy. Let’s make this process easier for each other. Let’s put an end to this breastfeeding pressure. As long as, our kids are healthy and happy, that is all it matters. Let’s enjoy that!
